So I want to do a nice three-day family tour this summer, but my youngest--the seven year-old apple of my eye--doesn't have the speed or stamina to hang with the rest of the family. So I'm hoping to rent a tandem that will accomodate a little person on the stoker's seat.

I've been eyeing the Amishland and Lakes ride on Labor Day weekend, but we may do a roll-your-own ride along the Mississippi.

When she was younger, we used a trail-a-bike for years, but she has grown too big for me to feel very safe or stable with a jointed ride like that.

Suggestions are totally welcomed. Thanks!!

Not a tandem person myself, but I think there is a shop out in the western burbs that's heavily tandem-oriented. There is also a tandem club/group in the Chicago area: http://chicagotandems.com/ Might be worth checking with them.

Assuming you are not interested in the cruiser tandems you can rent at the lakefront, your only choice for tandem rental in Chicagoland will be village cycle sports at their Elk Grove Village location.
How tall is your daughter?

Bike and Roll rents tandems.

If memory serves me correctly, Hector lives somewhere near Iowa.  :-)
