Third winter I have ridden in Chicago and the first fall I took was tonight! Should have read Chainlink.
Ice/snow weren't even in my world view. Was going up Franklin..hit an ice patch. Came down on my knee..not bad - don't even thing I got a scrape. More worried about tai behind me.
Biked to whole Foods on Kingsbury. As others above wrote, appears no salting done. Walked a good bit of the way as so afraid of falling again.
Whoa! Glad you are all okay. Seems like it was a good time to take vacation since I know I would have ridden this morning had I gone to work! :-)
I went down by my house near Diversey/Kedzie and that was on my way to work. Pulled a muscle in my back I think, but I can still walk and ride. Tried to ride the rest of the way to work but it took forever so I brought my bike on the train. First time I've slipped in over a 2 years. Be careful guys.
I'm sorry Minh.

I got my seasonal slip and fall out of the way early this winter. I was heading East on Wabansia in Humbolt park, and I bit it big time. I went one way, the bike went another. Fortunatly nothing and no one was hurt. But man! the streets were a solid sheet of Ice in places. Be extra carefull everyone.
Riding up Dearborn north of Division or so, I felt my pedals slipping as I began moving from stop signs. At first, I thought there was something wrong with my bike, then I realized that the road was nothing but ice. As I stopped at one intersection, I felt my rear wheel come out from behind me, and put my foot down. I stood up and the bike did a 180°. I walked the rest of the way to the park and rode home very slowly... discretion is the better part of valor. Kenmore just south of Granville was similarly slippery, but I managed to stay on the bike there.
Get on the tweeter and tell St. Gabe to get on this.

Really hope everyone is ok, but the images of 100's of bikers slipping all over is kind of funny. :) Count me as one of them, and as promised will get some video up. I did see at least ONE salt truck on damen near the United Center dumping his load. Its good to get the first one out of way and realize that we aren't made of glass, right? For bonus points, none of the beer in my messenger bag broke when I fell. Chrome 1, Ice 0.
