This weekend marks the opening of the extension of Lake Shore Drive from Rainbow Beach at 79th through the old USS works to the Calumet River(?).  It's only a couple of miles, but why not an event to whoop and holler over the new route?  After all, the goal is one continuous protected path from stateline to statline.

Chicago Velo campus is having an event to mark the occasion.  I can't find the flyer on their website though.

I'm still a little confused as to the naming of 'Lake Shore Drive Extension" when LSD ends at 67th, but I guess Route 41 reroute sounds less sexy.

I agree this is significant.  Having a few (or thousands) cyclists at a ribbon cutting could be effective. Do you know any details about the actual time it will open?  I read October 27th in the Tribune.

I looked around the website of Chicago department of Transportation but did see any flashing headlines about ribbon cutting.

I wonder if this will give us access to park #523?

Thank you, Peter , for the date and other info.  I might attend this event, I definitely will ride this section.

I am not an expert on ribbon cutting ceremonies but I wonder how many other bike path/street ribbon cuttings feature "no guns" notice on the title page.
