Isn't the normal Metra capacity issue car availability and platform length?   The engines that pull Metra trains can handle more cars with very little additional cost.    Maybe Metra charges extra for the Bike Car.   I also understand that it would be possible (although so unprofitable that it would not happen for us) to pay Metra to add a private car to a train.   The Deerpath, a private club, is the only one that I know of.

If they are going to add bike cars (and they really should), it should be the one right by the locomotive. It's easier to tell passengers in the last car (that would be off the platform) that they need to move forward one car to exit than to try to deal with getting bikes off because the car is off the platform.

Frankly, they Metra blackout on bikes during rush and any date they feel like drives me nuts.  They need to figure that out.  As it stands now, if I want to ride in the city, I put my bike on the back of my car and guilt my way to my buddy's house to park.

It's been a long time, but I was once kicked off in the middle of a ride out to Geneva (to visit my grandparents in Batavia) because the conductor felt that the half empty car was too full to have a bike in it.  I ended up in tiny little town along the route.  I was so irritated that I called my uncle to come get me with his pickup.  This was, of course, after they implemented the bikes allowed on trains rules.

with the reverse commute issue, I wish I mentioned, in regards to the Milwaukee west line, there are about three maybe four empty and closed off train cars...
If you are the same conductors, maybe you can ask about tomorrow's restrictions.
I do think that the worse parts would be in the morning coming in and early afternoon going out.
Reverse commutersay have a problem in the morning, but they may let you slide in the afternoon.

I'd suggest that Metra fire its management team, but at $740k a pop, that could add up quickly.

And now CTA has blacked out bikes on Friday (Blackhawks parade) and Sunday (Pride Parade) for the whole day. Grr... I was planning on carrying my bike on the train on Sunday...

Well you can use Metra...

Although this is not a completely satisfactory solution, folding bikes (bagged) are permitted at all times.

Steve

with the blackout - this is what i would expect to see...

but instead...

The Blackhawks are the Lacrosse team right? We had to talk are way into the Bike Center this morning to get our shower -- the guard said we should have seen it on the News. "Hey, I don't own a t.v.". The SE stairtower @ LSD and the river was locked this morning. Is that related? Had to backtrack and take the long way to the riverwalk detour. Why don't they just shutdown the whole loop?
