A colleague is looking for training wheels or information about obtaining training wheels for a child's bike. The child has some special needs and the wheels he wants to find are wider or larger than typical training wheels. Does anyone know where to obtain such for a good price? Thanks.

I looked into this a short while ago.  This might help.

While we are at it, if you'd like to increase the odds that my nephew wins an adaptive bike, you can drop a donation at: https://friendshipcircle.org/bikes/2013/04/23/carlo/

The Great Bikes Giveaway seems pretty great in general: https://friendshipcircle.org/bikes/ perhaps your colleague might want to look into that Jessica.

Thanks everyone.

WILL DO!!!!!

Sorry to be late to the discussion..

We too started out with the great folks at the Bike Rack in St. Charles and they helped us get set up with our first adaptive bike, which was a kids bike with training wheels that were larger than standard ones, pneumatic, and attached with a very sturdy bracket. We've since taken that same bike for the same kid and turned it into a trike via a conversion kit we bought online and had shipped to a local bike shop here in the city (Comrade Cycles), where they put it all together and gave us a great trike.

  • This is a page on my blog that has photos of the various configurations of our adaptive kid's bike:

  • This site sells the "fat wheels" -style training wheels that we started out with via the Bike Rack:

http://www.fatwheels.com/

  • And this site sells the trike conversion kit that we're using right now

These look interesting! Though it appears they are size for adult bikes not kids bikes?

the training wheels are the EZ trainer for use with 26-28" wheel bicycles. They are designed for adults but also for rehabilitation and handicapped. I believe they make a smaller size as well.

We sell a set of adult training wheels. They will fit 26" or larger bike. If this will help their web site is,

eztrainingwheels.com. They have large springs built into them, so when you lean they give. They sell for $189.99 and we have them in stock.

One of the parents of a student at my school developed these bikes for children with special needs:

They are different than what the OP was looking for but may be another avenue to check out.
