What's the approximate make/year? I had a 70's(?) Cycle Citane for which I had a heck of a time finding a new bottom bracket. I think a Phil Wood wound up doing the trick. Just an idea...

the make of the bike is a mystery to me, but the bb is a Stronglight, as well as the crank. Looks like the spindle has a short taper.

If all else fails, a good mechanic/shop should have a BB tap for Italian threads (36X24tpi, IIRC) and will know how to use it properly. This is a good general cure for cross-threaded or otherwise roached French BBs one often encounters. You will have an easier time finding italian BBs than French, but remember that the typical Italian BB is a 70mm shell as opposed to the usual 68mm, so you'll need a 68mm spindle.

Also, you could try an established restorer such as Cycle Art. i've also had luck finding odd French parts on that Really Big Auction Site...

They have a Shimano one as well. Also $20. - not oversized.

The Phil Woods are PRICEY! i also regularly get them on eBay pretty cheap when I need them.

Ha! ebay going price for complete bottom bracket is about $35, which is what you can get entire Raleigh bicycles on Craig's List (from time to time)
if you'd rather.

Also, it is easy to rethread Nottingham Raleigh bottom bracket shells for standard English threading eliminating the need for those annoying cups!

OK actually if you are willing to order overseas, you are in business. Cheap too....but who knows with shipping....it is the correct 24tpi threading and is an original Raleigh product.

Hmm, Raleigh bb threading is 26 tpi. This looks like a raleigh product with standard english threading..
