relocating lights

I have a front light that attaches to my handle bars. It is the type that slips into the base that is connect to the handle bar. I want to make it into a helmet light. Any thoughts on how to convert it? It would be placed on a climbing helmet, so it would not have air vents to wrap anything through. It would also have to be easy to put on and take off.

no vents on the helmet presents a challenge; along with being able to remove the light (that rules out gluing it or permanently mounting it).

 

if it were me...I would bite the bullet and probably get one of these :

it seems to be really bright; can be dimmed; and can be used for other functions

(camping, around the house, etc.)

I just bought a really nice head lamp for $70, already own a similar one to the one posted. I just need a third light source for back up for a trip and thought I would save a few bucks by being crafty. Plus the light.I have right now that I want to turn.into a helmet light is a lot brighter than that headlamp.

What about Velcro tape? My local Ace Hardware sells strips of Velcro tape which I use to stabilize a helmet light; tape the fuzzy side to the helmet and the hook side to the light?

Ideally yes. But this is a back up light. If my other two fail I would use this. So it would have to be an easy while out being able to attach. I was thinking of a way to connect it to a band that I could put on. Think harder.guys!! :)

You could try "gluing" it with something easily removable like Command adhesive. Not the best solution if you want to take it on and off a lot, but it would work if it's a one time deal for a trip.

i have used velcro tape before (in fact I have some 'heavy duty' right now I will give you) with

good results. only thing is if the freezing weather, etc. causes it to fail and the light falls off;

it may be a little hard to determine and retrieve it ?   let me know...it's yours for free if you want it.

I can even deliver it to you (I take grand to go home)

The structurally best would be 2 small bolts through the top of the helmet (the ones with smooth tops, with the tops on the inside and the length of bolt sticking out the helmet).  I would bolt the handlebar mount onto the helmet so it is functionally the same (easy to remove).  In this way the structural integrity is limited by the handlebar mount, which I imagine is pretty solid.

This would, of course, put 2 small holes in your helmet, but for this weight very small bolts/washers could be used.

The headband may work, depending on helmet shape... but I'd def stay away from velcro.

My Magicshine light came with a headband adapter. you can buy them separately here.

You're welcome to borrow mine too. I've never used it.

IF you want to make on of these, one idea is to take a small piece of pipe/bar stock and mount the light to that.  Than use the headstrap from one of the "failed" (since this is a backup) head lamps and wrap the strap around the bar the light is mounted to, this may not prevent the light from tilting forward though the way the one with the top strap here would.
