"With all the stolen bike posts lately (and no one thinking "I wonder if there's something under Useful Links for this."), I think it's well past time to make a sticky about the Stolen Bike Registry"

Any chance this could be it? - http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/bik/3404277819.html
The picture isn't very good and there are some small differences, but the frame looks close enough to maybe make an effort to llok at it.

My Specialized Sirrus Comp (XL) was stolen from the bike rack on the North East side of Michigan Ave, just North of the Park Grill on Friday night. Between 5PM and 7PM.
Distinguishing features: crane bell (silver) on the left handle bar, along with a mount for a high powered LED light (which I had in my pocket) Cat-eye motion sensor lights front and back (white front / red back) they have been glued into their mounts so, removing them isn't an option except for removing the whole light.
Reward for its safe return, as I just found out that I am not covered, insurance wise. :cry
The fork in the Craigslist bike is different. I think the Craigslist bike is a Cirrus Sport, where Brad's bike is a Cirrus Comp.
Still... impressed with OLB or anyone who would check Craigslist for a member's bike. Cheers!
Hell to the yeah. Thanks for the thoughts. Mucho appreciado (or something)

Is there any place to report a bike that I think is lost? That is, there's a bike that's been locked to an unsecure, out of the way spot for a number of weeks, and I'm thinking the owner just forgot where they left it. I guess it could be abandoned on purpose. It's a black Maruishi Road Ace 202 with those 80s style gear shifters on the down tube. I searched on the SBR and didn't see it listed.
Is there a place to see a report from the Stolen Bike Registry? I'm mainly interested in the data showing u-locks vs chains vs cables vs double u-locks. I didn't see anything like that on stolenbike.org. I'm kinda surprised there's not a "tips" or reports page or something.
I remember seeing a post or topic like this on the chainlink in the past, but i can't seem to find it. It must be buried in there somewhere.
Thanks guys!

This looks very suspicious.
What draws my attention is that both bikes pictured have almost exactly the same seat post height and frame size. If the Jolly Green Dude that is selling it matches the bike then it most certainly is his. Not many guys could ride those bikes so he must be pretty darn tall to ride a non-compact 61cm frame AND have the seatpost that far extended.
Maybe the guy just wised up and and is parting out his toy single-speed in favor of his other grown-up bike with actual gears and brakes. The coaster-brake Fauxie craze never really caught on here in Chicago.
Whole bikes sell for much less than the sum of their parts, especially when some of the parts (like nicer areospoke front wheels) are very high end compared to the rest of the bike and the frame is THAT BIG. A giant-sized coaster-brake SS bike with a OK frame isn't going to attract many would-be buyers or fetch much more on CL than just a nice 700c aero wheel alone so I don't blame him for parting it out like he is. I'd list the frameset without the coaster brake wheel (or saddle, pedals & chain) and list those separately for maximum bang for the buck.
That's just my opinion, from someone who does a lot of buying and selling on CL.
