My 4 month old Specialized Vita hybrid was stolen from a bike rack on Canal and Monroe this morning at approximately 7:45 AM. I biked to work and realized I'd left my U Lock at home. I locked it with a cable and master padlock, and walked into my building to find the service elevator. I was going to put my bike in my cubicle for the day. By the time I walked out less than 5 minutes later, it was stolen.
It has pink trim, a planet bike eco mount rear rack, and locking skewers.
I'm following the advice on the stolen bike forum. Thanks to all the Chainlinkers for offering these tips.
Just posting so others will be smarter than I was. I'm heartbroken.

Sorry about your bike.
What is the "stolen bike forum?"
We have not received a report to the Chicago Stolen Bicycle Registry yet-- first step should be to post there.
I meant the thread on this site discussing the stolen bike registry and what to do when your bike is stolen. I just submitted the report to the Stolen Bike Registry. Thanks.
Jez, so sorry to hear about it.
OK, got it now. Please pass the police report number along when you have it. The best way is to call 311 late at night.... during the day the hold times are often ridiculous and if you use their automated system to have them call you often they never do.
