A special thanks to the lovely Eboni Senai, a true gem in our city. Her work as the Founder of Red Bike & Green - Chicago is energizing bicycling culture in the African American community of Chicago. Also want to share a huge thanks with John Greenfield, Willow Naeco, and Steven Lane for their early, active, and consistent support of this effort.

We will meet up at 5:30pm on Friday, August 31st at the Picasso statue at Daley Plaza. Please join us for a beautiful ride through parts of the Southside of Chicago!

Great route, great ride!!

Thanks, Oboi, et al.

Thanks to Oboi, John, and everyone else who helped pull this ride off.  Had a great time... just home but didn't end up trying to track down the DJ affair. Would be interested to hear how it was.

Peace y'all - Last night was a dream come true for me. And an awesome way to be welcomed home after living in Brazil for 6 months. 1000+ of my closest friends riding through the streets on the Southside of Chicago was an incredibly amazing experience. The love on the streets of the Southside was overflowing. We shared love and we received it back in multiples. I know in my heart that we energized biking on the Southside last night. We inspired people - young & old, active & inactive, the naysayers & the believers. We made an important statement last night. We proudly proclaimed that the City of Chicago is one city and biking is for everyone. We shouted loudly that we all deserve access to biking resources and the myriad benefits associated with those resources. The Pioneers Bicycle Club exist to get more Black folks and Southsiders riding in an effort to improve the health of our community. Our journey continues. A very special thanks to Eboni Senai and Red Bike & Green - Chicago. Eboni is doing the critical work of making biking cool and more Black folks in Chicago ride today as a result of her work and the work of RBG. It was indeed a pleasure for The Pioneers to partner with RBG on this effort. I especially want to thank John Greenfield for the encouragement to propose a Southside route for Critical Mass over a year ago. He has been a consistent supporter of the idea and happily did the work to make it happen. Thank you to Willow Naeco for enthusiastically supporting our route with prime real estate in The Deraileur Magazine. Thanks to Steven Lane for the early, active support and for promoting the route online. A big shout out and the tip of the hat to all the folks that loved the idea from the beginning and to all the folks that needed convincing. Together we put a dent in the universe, however small, a dent nonetheless. For this, I thank you deeply! - @theycallmeOboi

the pleasure was all mine Willow, thank you kindly for the consistent support!

Thanks to everyone who helped pass out Derailleurs before the ride. You did a fantastic job of getting the zines into people's hands!

Thanks, also, to everyone who donated to help offset my costs for publishing the zine. Be sure to take a button as a thank you for donating.

THANKS AGAIN!

yeah, loved seeing this lil brother with his eyes wide open, completely blown away and pleasantly in shock after seeing 1000+ cyclists rolling down his quiet, tree lined street. awesome...

That was fun!

Thanks, Oboi, for a great route choice! I really enjoyed riding though the historic neighborhoods of Bronzeville, Washington Park, Hyde Park, and Kenwood! Thanks again for helping me get out of my comfort zone and ride though the South Side. Not once did I feel like we were in bad areas, and the people there were all very friendly and welcoming. I would definitely do this again!

wow Gene, love your photos! would you mind if i post a few on FB? with proper attribution of course. thank for the pics and thanks for riding!

This was one of my fave masses ever, for the route, the significance of the map points and for the ending spot, and for the outpour of families from doorsteps, coming out to cheer us on!  I think the Southside rocks!  I absolutely loved it thanks so much for this mass!  So glad I made it!
