“Is every tragedy a crime? The answer is no,” Stevens said. “Gilbert is not guilty because he did not have a guilty state of mind. ... This is a 65-mph highway. He's not looking for bicyclists.”
This defense attorney should be made to ride a bike to work ever day on this highway. Maybe he'll change his tune!
I've been through Texas, and people drive like maniacs there. If traffic comes to a standstill on a highway, people just drive their trucks over the grass and onto the frontage road to avoid the backup.
Thanks for sharing Serge. I'm a minimal poster, but this is too much....
I see the same behaviour by cyclists, motorists and pedestrians here in Chicago everyday. People going too fast and paying no attention to what they're doing nor to their surroundings. Both reduce the margin for error when the unexpected happens.
Ride safe people. Its your life, and it doesn't matter if the other guy is at fault if you get killed or seriously injured. You'll still be dead or crippled and there is nothing that can give you your life or mobility back. While it appears that there is little these folks on the tandem could've done save not using this road, it does them little good if this cretin gets an extra couple years
Personally I think this driver's implicit mentality of 'fuck all the rest of you' is a cancer which is spreading (has spread?) through American society past the point of no return.
They are taught that in Driver's Ed.
