I like Altoids.  They're small, lightweight and pack a flavorful wallop for the size.  My current fave are ginger Altoids, which I only run into from time to time.  Currently my ginger jones is fed by Cost Plus World Market or REI Oak Brook, as my corner grocer only carries the mint & cinnamon versions.

The liquorice are interesting as well.

But the coolest thing about Altoids is: they come in these incredibly sturdy, useful tin boxes.

There are plans out there on the Interwebs for an Altoids tin bike light, which I'd like to attempt building sometime this summer.

Another idea is for a cycling emergency kit, all packed into a tiny Altoids tin.

1)  Where do you find the licorice Altoids?

2) Great ideas--the only thing I have ever done with the tins is to keep change and a couple of bucks for emergencies, but I hate throwing the things away!

I've bought both the ginger & liquorice versions at my local Cost Plus World Market, on Maple Avenue, just north of Church Street, in Evanston, next to the movie theatre.  If Evanston's too far out of your area, you can buy them online here.

Just found 22 more "manly ways" (LOL!!) to reuse the tins.

Pocket games chest:

Pocket martini kit (yes!!  Marauders....?)

Secret Agent Morse code oscillator:

Mini fishing tackle box:

And, maybe the best idea of all: the Altoids tin fireball shooter!

I am totally mounting a fireball shooter to my handlebars.  Get outta the bike lane, Mr. UPS truck!  Begone, feral wild dogs!  Back off, Lake Front Path Muggers!  Bam!!! Whoosh!!!

I could try the Cost Plus at North and Sheffield, but I bet the ride from Belmont and the lake to Evanston is nicer!
