Managed 29 of 30 for April, had a day trip to Indianapolis. Nothing to do with hard core, just state of mind, entrainment. Finished up with a terrific practice paceline ride tonight. Sponsored by CCC, Rich does an amazing job teaching/instructing. For a commuter it's a treat to ride with others, and they were great bike handlers too. This ride is every Monday depart at 6:30 P.M. from Lincoln and California.

Rode today in the rain. My clothes are soaked. Otherwise, not so bad though. I should have ordered that waterproof jacket a day earlier. Oh well.
Anyone know what they are building here? I pass this by every day on my commute home.

I rode today. And walked. about 7 miles into my 10 mile commute, I busted a spoke, which somehow caused my rear tire to flat. In addition to that, I'm pissed that my rear tire has flatted 4 times in the last week. I think a new tire is in my future.

Sounds like a new wheel (or at least a rebuild with new spokes) might be in your future too. Is that the first spoke to let loose on that wheel? If a busted spoke causes a flat then it points to tension issues which if it has gone this far gone points to probably needing all new spokes sooner or later... At least check the rimstrap and the nipples beneath for protruding spokes. More than one single thread out is an issue.

Yep, this is the first one to go.
I'll have to check the rest of the rim tape and see if there is any other damage. Oddly enough, I noticed nothing else poking when running my fingers on the rim tape on Monday evening when I got a flat.
A nice hand built wheel would be totally worth the peace of mind. hoofing it into work sucks.

After 10 days without my regular ride while wheeling an under-sized 1954 Schwinn with its inherent back, wrist, hand and bum problems, I have my recumbent trike back. Whhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Wheels flex, and if the spokes are not tensioned correctly when the wheel flexes a LOT the spokes stay rigid and where they are when the rim moves towards the axle. Sometimes this is enough for the spokes to poke through the rim-tape and pierce the tube in that instant and when the wheel goes back round after the bump or whatever it was that caused the rim to flex they disappear again into their little spoke holes. You'd never feel it upon inspection.
