Bicycling Ambassadors Program Assistant

 

The City of Chicago’s Bicycling Ambassadors Program seeks an office assistant to join the team and help us educate all Chicagoans to ride bicycles and share the road with bicyclists.

 

Reporting Relationships and Work Environment

The Program Assistant will work at the Chicago Department of Transportation office, reporting to the CDOT Bike Safety and Education Manager. The Assistant may work occasional evenings or weekends at Bicycling Ambassador outreach events.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and update the city’s bike safety websites, including www.bicyclingambassadors.org and    www.chicagobikes.org.
  • Work with community groups, business associations, volunteers, sponsors, and city organizations to schedule events.
  • Create and manage mailing lists for material distribution.
    • Assemble and distribute bike safety program materials.
    • Assist the Manager with additional administrative tasks as necessary.
    • Present Bicycling Ambassador information in formal and informal settings.
    • Bicycle to, from, and at occasional events and presentations.

 

Qualifications

  • Ability to complete projects in an unstructured and informal environment, and with limited supervision.
    •   Good at solving problems, thinking creatively, and self-motivated.
    •   Writes and speaks in a friendly, concise, and accurate manner.
    • Prompt, punctual and organized.
    • Proficient with Adobe Software (Dreamweaver, Illustrator, etc) and Microsoft Office applications.
    • Familiarity with Online Development Tools (Google, Drupal, etc)
    • Able to communicate well with people of all ages, abilities, cultural groups, economic statuses, sexual orientations, gender identities and disabilities.
    • Experienced in bicycling in urban traffic.
    • Owns a bicycle in good working condition, and a certified bicycling helmet.
    • Physically fit and able to work outdoors all day and in any weather.
    • Works well in a team, and fosters team spirit.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Proficiency in a language other than English, especially Spanish.
  • Previous experience in bicycle safety education.

 

Hours and Term Part-time employment through December 2012. Hours will average 30 hours/week.

 

Salary $11 - $14.00/hour.
