What material is the seat made from?

Look into vinyl upholstery paint from an upholstery shop that does car interiors.  It's tough stuff as it is used on car seats and won't rub off on your butt I have heard.   The downsides are that it is pretty expensive, you can't buy it in tiny bottles so you will have to buy way too much, and it doesn't come in too many color choices.

 

But if you are crafty the sky is probably the limit in what you can do. Maybe you can do a group buy with other crafty folks to get a number of different colors.

I looked up vinyl paint - and the cost was prohibitive. BUT then I went to eBay and searched for leather paint (for shoes, bags, vinyl, etc) and that is very very accessible. Lots of colors, smaller sizes. 

I just have a regular old schwinn seat, probably vinyl - but I think this will work. Opinions? It's designed not to rub it flake off. Thanks for the idea!!

If a group buy happens I'd be in for some blue or red (or both).

 

I was looking for a blue saddle on eBay and someone was selling a reconditioned old sprung blue saddle. They mentioned dye.

are you just looking to change the color, or are you going to do some kind of design? Most likely your seat is vinyl

That's my back-up plan, but spray paint seems messier. But I'll use whichever works - hopefully someone will have tried one or both

for anyone who cares, there's actually a place in town that has leather paint super cheap - and in a ton of colors. i'm going next week! (637 w roosevelt, i forget the name)
