Storm!

I got to work literally a minute before it started. Whoa!

I hope everyone out there has taken shelter and otherwise safe.

It seems over now -just a bit of light rain.  We lost power for a second.  I've yet to go outside and see how bad it is.  I had to shut the window during the blow and when I looked out it was like a hurricane out there.  All the car alarms were going off in the street and the rain was going sideways.

Woke up too late. Power went out for a while. I don't think I'm biking today!

Yea, I was at Grand and Damen when it hit (That's what i get for thinking i could beat it in). After a minute or two I was so wet it didn't really matter anymore and was actually one of the funnest rides I've had into work in a while. The only times things got a little sketch was when the wind would whip up and play games with the wheels and rolling over the awesome metal bridges we have. Other than that it was all good. Props to eveyone who said "fuck it" and kept riding, I hope there is a warm pot of coffee and Jameson waiting at your destination.

i got caught in it in wood dale.  i got off the train and only a few drops started, but i could see clouds of doom.  i put on my rain gear in anticipation.  within two minutes, a violent wind came out of the trees up the hill and kept coming towards me.  it looked like an invisible monster just shaking all the trees in a path in my direction.  wind almost blew me off the bike.  branches large and small were falling around me.  i needed shelter.  i know it was completely dumb, but all i could do was hid under a tree.  i picked a flexible fine tree.  the oaks were the ones dropping all the branches.  the two beautiful oaks i pass every day just up the street looked like gate to hell.  i stayed put for a few minutes and continued as it seemed it was about settle.  another moment of riding and just past the gates of hell, the wind and rain picked up again as i turned onto wood dale rd.  cars were stopped on the side.  i chose the sidewalk.  my rain gear started to leak.  i forgot to zip the vents on my jacket and the pants seemed to just give up. warm water sprayed on my feet.  my flipflops were squishy sponges.  another 10 minutes of that and i finally walked in to my office.  my collegues of course laughing at me.

 

im still afraid of being struck by lightning.

It was dark and all that, but one can clearly see a helmet and a posture of a man standing over his bike, not walking it. Just sayin' . . .

I had my huge apple tree fall in my backyard taking my powerlines with  it. If anyone has a chainsaw and wants some free applewood shoot me a message.

I took a short spin on the LFP and I'd planned to head north at Olive Park.  When I turned around at Olive Park, couldn't help but notice the city had been swallowed up.  Just before I got in the LSD underpass at Olive Park, I had bucket loads of rain dumped on me.  

 

Waited for around 30 minutes and headed back north to home.  In that 30 minutes, I saw a continuous stream riders on the path.

 

Every trash can had been blown over, lots of tree branches and limbs had been blown down.  There was quite a large limb blocking the path by Waveland golf course.

 

Quite a storm.  Now, sitting in my condo, there's not a stitch of breeze outside.

I was on the NBT, we turned around after about 9 miles because it looked horrible, we got pretty wet and found shelter in one of the picnic area buildings. After about 20 minutes we rode home having to avoid many large branches and several downed trees.
