Who in this fine city builds quality steel trailers based on custom orders? Are they fast?

Here is my rough sketch of what the trailer will have to have...

MSRP is more around over $500 to 600 depending on size.  I have to admit a lack of personal knowledge regarding costs on custom trailers.  Considering the costs of custom porter racks and other custom bike parts/racks in general, I assumed Surly's price would be under what a custom set-up would cost (Surly's price on just about everything else they produce has been more than fair given their reputation for durability/quality).  If independent builders are doing this type of 4130-steel trailer custom for under $500, good on them.  Just thought I'd share that Surly is doing something off the shelf that is pretty damn close to what is outlined above.

two other (three wheeled) possibilities:

  1. trike (delta configuration)
  2. chariot side hack

there are designs for both of these options to allow the bicycle to lean into the turn as opposed to the trapped in a triangle feeling that most trikes provide.

btw: noticed something about your depiction of the trailer above. you have an angular measurement for the length of part of the trailer 41 51/64" (corner to corner) as opposed a straight measurement just along one side. just wondering if this is that what you intended.

Yeah the Surly trailer is around $550 (with shipping). This is probably more expensive that the cost of a custom made one. http://www.treefortbikes.com/product/333222368061/450/Surly-Bill-Lo...

Wike sells a DIY trailer kit, where the connections are included, but you go to home depot and ask them to cut the tube steel and platform to the dimmensions you desire.

its $129 for the kit and doesn't involve welding.

$600?  Surly you jest...
That's a pretty neat kit.
