Wind Advisory for Chicago Until 9 tonight

20 - 30 mph? Hmm. I conveniently need to be in the car today to pick up a rather large mirror, so I won't be cycling. Be careful everyone who is riding today- as the tail wind may be grand, but the headwind sounds like hell- and I won't even go into what a 45mph crosswind gust might feel like.

I hope you have an extra good pair of hands to load that mirror as well. Careful because those cl-haters pick on folks who mention they may do anything involving a motor vehicle. Smiles ":)
surf's up...

The way I see it, sometimes a vehicle is a necessary evil. I don't like cars that much, either, but that doesn't mean I don't utilize them.  I just try not to use them unless I have good reason to, as I prefer to bike and walk to my destinations.

Shapeshifter-How did you get that pic? I love it!

it updates every 10 minutes or so with a fresh shot of the lake and is refreshed every time you open it.

I thought about not biking but it was ok. On the way in at least... I did wear extra layers.

Yes prob not a day to carry delicate items by bike.

My 2.5 mi south-east was hard but not terrible, my 2.5 mi east was slow, but not too bad if you have some gears.  Sort of like a really long hill.

There where strong gusts around builds, so make sure to have both hands on the handlebars and give yourself as much room from parked cars/curb as possible at intersections and large buildings.

Miguel taught his preK class about head and tail winds today. Ugh.  I think wind is harder for me than cold. Who needs hills when we have wind advisories? :) I was working my gears today.

Be careful riding home guys - later today a strong storm is supposed to be coming in.  High winds (gusts up to 45 mph) and heavy rain, possible lightning.

All of the above kept me off my bike today.  I'm dying to try another ride to work again, but 15 miles is way too long to ride in the rain/wind.  Well, at least for me.

Rode last night on nice 3 mile segment of County Line Road in Bensenville from Green Street south to Elmhurst. 25 MPH tailwind gusts made it a blast.

suction cups come in handy for handling glass i picked up one of these at the brown elephant for two bucks... it's marketed as a portable bathroom grab bar but essentially serves the same purpose as this tool. i seem to remember that they had sold a similar product at bed bath and beyond but i can't find a link to the product.

I always keep the bus or a cab in mind when I don't feel right riding.

Shay--I am impressed. I think 15 miles is a long way to ride to work even in still, mild weather. I am more of a 1/2 to five miler. Not that I can't/won't do longer rides, but not for routine trips.
