"With all the stolen bike posts lately (and no one thinking "I wonder if there's something under Useful Links for this."), I think it's well past time to make a sticky about the Stolen Bike Registry"

My friend Kat had her ride stolen yesterday and I promised her I'd try to get the word out.  Police reports have been filled out, now it's time to see if she can get lucky.

It's a Trek 2000 custom powder coated bright-ass-teal so it's pretty easy to ID.

Contact her if you spot it (info is in the link above.)

I built this bike.  It was an awesome build too...  Handbuilt wheels, custom paint.  What a shame.  So sorry to see it's been stolen.

On another note...  Does anyone know if the stolen bike registry has ever actually recovered bikes?  I can see that at the very least it is a tremendous resource for a "how to" avoid having your bike stolen as we can learn from others where and how bikes are being stolen, but has it ever actually helped recover bikes?

My 2010 black-and-white Cannondale Synapse was stolen Friday from the West Loop. It has a rack on the back, or at least it did when it was taken, and locking skewers on the wheels. The image below is a stock image, but it's exactly what my bike looks like minus the rack and pedals.

If anyone sees it, I'd really appreciate a call--my cell phone number is 224-456-7305. I still have the receipt and warranty card, so I can easily prove it's mine. There's more information at the Stolen Bike Registry page for it: http://chicago.stolenbike.org/node/190888

Hey everyone, my bike was stolen last Monday from the west loop also -- a 2010 Raleigh Grand Sport with blue bar tape on compact bars that I swapped out.  Unfortunately, my cat (pictured) was not around to guard it.

The police report is HT 213686 if you come across it.

Erin, attach the stolen bike reg link here as well.

So hey y'all, just a heads up if anyone can help...1998 Trek Y Carbon, maybe the most easily recognizable bike in the city, spray-painted flat black, size Large, all XTR components, Marzocchi front fork, Mavic rear rim, other various components. Hadn't been ridden in over a year and I (foolishly) locked it up poorly and it was stolen from my courtyard in Logan Square. Actually saw the guy who stole it riding it recently while I was on foot, 6' Latino male, shaved head, with a large neck tattoo. If you see it or happen to see it for sale let me know....Thanks

It has got to suck to see your stolen bike but not be able to do anything about it.   It kind of makes you wish you had one of these:

I've been riding the same bike for 5 years without issue, but I guess today was (not) my day.  2005 Jamis Ventura Comp XL Men's Black/Chrome Frame w/ Yellow handle tape/wrap.  It was triple locked (pinhead locking skewers on front/back wheels, kryptonite cable component lock threaded around back tire and into u-lock, kryptonite evolution u-lock (orange, flat key) wrapped around frame and bike rail.

450 W Monroe Chicago IL.  Building security is reviewing their tape feed from today and I have a police report.

All component info matches the spec here (http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=2005&Bra...), except the handle bar stem is 'Specialized'

Thanks for looking.

Thanks.  Security called to say they didn't see anything specific on the tape (heavy foot traffic).  They recommend I call back during business hours tomorrow to speak with someone in charge regarding getting a copy of the tape (for the police report, etc.).  I'll reply back to the thread if I have any success.
My co-workers bike just got stolen from the same place my bike got stolen.  She will be posting soon to the stolen bike reg and is on the phone with the police. We will post pictures tonight hopefully.

cut u lock, it is still there with her helmet.
