Take-off tyres from the oft-discussed McHenry bike I picked up last week.

OEM tyres, I presume since everything else on this bike has been and it obviously wasn't ridden very much.   Even the pedals have almost no wear on them and the original chain was still within specs.

Labeled "Duro,"  these are 60psi tyres  in serviceable shape for anyone who wants to do a period-correct restoration.  The front has very little wear at all and the rear has some noticeable wear but is still at 50% or more -plenty of life left in it.  They are not too badly weathered although not in "like new" condition as they are 33 years old.

They are ISO 590 26x1-3/8 tyres but are very, VERY "tight" fitting.  I had to use steel tire-levers ala-motorcycle style to get them off of the stock rims.  After cleaning up the rims I experimented with them and yes, they are still really darn tight.  It wasn't just the filth and grunge making them not slide off to one side.  The new Kenda's went on with just my hand strength but there is no way anyone is going to lever these on or off just by hand and they'd probably break plastic bicycle tire levers they are so tight.

Woe be onto anyone who flatted with these out on the road so I'm not going to ever reuse them on the McHenry bike or any other even though they have plenty of service life left in them.  I'm not interested in period restorations but I suppose there might be someone out there who is.  Or maybe you are just really cheap (even cheaper than me?) and want to get some free tyres to burn up on your E3S.

If nobody wants them I guess they'll go into the dumpster.

James, has anybody responded to your offer? I am interested in the tyres if they are still available.

Dave

You are first and foremost Dave.  They are yours if you want them.

Send me a private message and I'll return you with my address if you want to come pick them up. I'm in Logan Square near the Logan Theater.

James, thanks. I am working this through my friend da square wheelman (aka Garth). I believe he is a friend of yours, at least on The Chainlink. I live in Ohio and Garth is coming for a visit in two weeks. He asked me to ask you to contact him through Chainlink to work out the logistics. -- Dave

No problem Dave.  I'll get with Garth.  I could even stash the tires out back of my place maybe under the wife's car and send Garth the address and a picture of where the tires are if that is easier for him so he doen't have to worry about catching me home.

I'm glad someone wants the tires.  I figured there might be a chance that someone wanted them for a Restoration project and I'm glad I don't have to dumpster them.  Reduce, Re-use, Recycle!  I'm happy.

Tires are gone to Dave.  Thanks Garth, you are a good friend to pick them up for Dave.

See you guys out on the tweedy side.

James, thank you for the tyres. My youngest son is estatic.
Dave
