IIRC this bill has already been withdrawn because of the backlash.

Long long ago...1967...we were required to buy licenses for our bikes in the far western 'burbs. It actually turned out to be a good thing for me as my Stingray got nicked and I got it back because of the license. Though the sticker was ugly, it was impossible to remove.

I understand the resistance to this idea, but I see a positive side to a license program.  I think it's a step closer to a perfect integration of bicycles in the traffic mix.  In other words, there are worse things than the state actively enforcing the rights of cyclists to use public roads.  Zeus knows that there are places that the opposite is a real risk.

There is a part of me that likes the idea of cyclists having to be responsible for their actions.

Let's regulate pedestrians too.  Make everyone walking the public streets have a "license" to move around.

 

Sounds like a good idea to me...

Actually, this pretty much exists.  If I'm not mistaken, every adult must posess a state issued form of identification.
