Happy New Years Everyone!
There's a traditional New Years Day Paddle that happens at the Skokie Lagoons every Year.
I'm thinking of biking out there this year and wanted to see if there was any interest in putting together a ride to go out there.
It's right on the North Branch Trail near Tower Road. It's 17 miles one way from my place near Damen and Diversey.
If there's enough interest I can see about having canoes up there for us.

Sounds awesome. Pardon my ignorance - does the lagoon freeze?
I'm in for this. Since I'm a wimp, I'm planning on driving and would welcome anyone who wants to carpool with me. I'm in Lincoln Square.
It sounds like we'd need to be up there at around 8:30. Who want to share my boat?

considering doing the new year's paddle with the stand up paddle surfboard... have a strange feeling there's going to be a few of us out there this year.
Liz - Usually I'd offer to pick you up that mornig, but since it's the opposite direction and an 8:30 arrival is going to be hard enough as is, I'm a little hesitant. If you want to meet me at my place in the morning, I can offer indoor bike storage while we paddle.

I would interested in carpooling with you, since I am also a wimp and would only go if I had a warm car ride there and back.

I understand, usually I wouldn't mind meeting at your place expect its sooooooooo early and it will take me a while to get there. If I end up finding a place to crash NYE on the north side I'll probably go, but if I'm coming from my house I'll probably just sleep in.

I just reserved my canoe through Chicagoland Canoe Base. They are actually pulling a trailer up there as well and it sound like they still have room if anyone wants to join in. The rental was $50 and the guy is very passionate about the river.
Call before close of business today!
I'm assuming the North Branch Trail hasn't been cleared since the snows. What route are you taking to the lagoons? A two day warm-up probably won't clear them alone
