My ride takes me from Lakeview/Uptown to VanBuren & Wells in the Loop.

When I take the city route to avoid wind, ice, etc. on the lakefront, it's easy going until I hit my personal gauntlet which is Wells St from Wacker to Van Buren (beneath the L tracks).  No daydreaming allowed in this stretch!

Does your ride have a stretch where you run the gauntlet?

This is some of the best riding in the city - I love it!
Milwaukee Ave From Division to Wabansia, mostly on the ride home from work at 5pm or on a busy weekend. I can't tell you home many times I've almost been doored, seen people almost doored, seen people HIT, almost run into jaywalking peds that walk into oncoming traffic looking the other way, hit by people exiting their vehicles in the middle of the street and also, by bikers taking a leisurely ride at 5pm only to stop whenever they see the shoe store they are googling on their smartphone with earbuds in. Oh and there's almost always some scooter riding in the bike lane.

So yeah, that's my gauntlet. (and that is why I love Augusta!)
Hmmm.

Lake avenue/ Euclid between Greenleaf and Burning Bush (Glenview-Mount Prospect) High speed mayhem...

Milwaukee ave from Lake to Glenview road (Glenview.) Same.

Sheridan rd, Howard to Devon. Taxis, busses, N. Shore-bound SUVs.

Penny Rd, Barrington Hills -not for traffic, but for rim-denting road surfaces.
i have it fairly easy when it comes to my commute except for dealing with suburban drivers on Wood Dale Rd (Wood Dale). They act like theyve never seen a bicycle before.

However, crossing Ashland at Hubbard around 5:30pm...wow that sux. Motorists do not practice any sort of intersection or share-the-road ettiquette here. Nor do they understand right of way laws for peds at marked crosswalks.
Oh yeah, Franklin between Van Buren and Wacker sucks too!
Yes I have a gauntlet I run twice a day. I ride East on Division from Humbolt Park (Kedzie) to where I work on Goose Island. (North branch) I have to pass under 90/94 and then over the River on an open metal grate bridge. Passing under the highway is allways dicey because of people trying to get on the Highway or driving really fast under the bridge to beat the lights. The whole time you are in a canyon of danger. I pass a ghost bike twice a day here. Then I need to go uphill, to cross Elston, then over the nasty metal bridge. It is allways an area where one needs to pay attention and keep their wits about them. I do it in the morning and again, going the other way in the evening.
I heave a great sigh of releif when I get through it both ways.
Crossing Fullerton at Damen is always great fun.
Then they are doing some road work just north of the seporated bridge on Damen. While they are doing this there is about a half mile of squeezed 2 lane traffick because they took the lane away so that sux.

Reddog you deserve a medel or something for that commute every day.
