"Designers" need to be kept as far away as possible from bikes. They're a little more function-critical than desk lamps or toasters.
If the pedals are on a free wheel, this might be pretty sweet.

There is a freewheel. And unless there is some additional gearing in the hub, your bike has a whopping 20 gear-inches.
I wouldn't ride it too far though.
When will people learn to stop messing with what is already perfect?

The article says it looks like a fixed gear, but it isn't. The design is interesting, but the ergonomics just don't look good for much more than a very short trip. They way it folds is nice at least.

It looks like all it would be good for is inner-office commuting. It would fold up fine in your cubicle and again at the meeting.

If everyone had one of these in the office can you imagine the amount of shoaling there would be at the elevator?
