Not much of a surprise actually, Chicago has been a leader in green buildings for some time.

It's interesting to see how fast this has taken off. When my employer's office opened in 2007, it was only the second LEED Gold certified building in Chicago. 3 years later that number has risen to a few dozen.

I think the early adapters have moved to LEED certification for residential buildings. (examples here and here)
