"Bicyclist dies in Stone Park hit-and-run
August 10, 2010 5:35 AM

A woman riding her bike near her home in northwest suburban Stone Park was struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident Monday evening, police said.

Marina Gonzalez, 47, of the 1700 block of North Mannheim Road, was hit by a vehicle heading southbound on the 1800 block of Mannheim. The vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet with front-end damage, fled the scene after the accident, police said.

She was taken to Loyola University Hospital in Maywood where she was pronounced dead at 10:48 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Police said they interviewed several "persons of interest" and were pursuing various leads in the case.

They urged anyone with information to contact the department at 708-450-3215.

horrible news. tho Mannheim is no place for a bicycle!!
Hey,

Im still new to this forum. I got prompted to finally post by hearing this story this morning. This is a horrible story and I hope they catch the motorist responsible. Being relativly new to the cyclist community I find these stories particularily terrifying as I have to cross many bicycle "unfriendly" streets in my daily commute to work.

I will keep this riders family in my prayers and if her services are open to the public I will ride there and pay my respects.

Thanks for posting this Amber.
She lived only a block or so away. I'm not familiar with this area, but there may not have been an alternative.

RIP Marina. Let's hope the driver is eventually held fully accountable.
