Planning thread for July 30th 2010 Chicago Critical Mass.

In the recent "Critical Mass Strategy" discussion, Barbra mentioned hints of her desire to do a map for July's CCM, with an underwear theme.  She's certainly capable, having participated in WNBR-C and CCM for several years, and the theme is certainly appropriate for hot weather.

So with just a few weeks to go, I'm proactively seeding this thread for discussion and planning.

Yeah 5:30 works for me!
My map flyer is so full! But there is a link to chicagocriticalmass.org so maybe you could link it there? Thanks!

You guys may have seen this, but how about incorporating this into the derailleur or map?

If schedule allows and it's not too hot I may ride the first half of the test ride too.
Okay it's on! Let the rain energy bless us with only gentle kisses! I'm bringin my rain jacket! Thanks for doing this with me, everyone! Much love!
You might want to add some cuts off on to various side streets or else it might be fast and end with lots of gaps per most rides with long straightaways

my two cents

oh and spencer - why did you include the doofus google map tutorial....? I think most of us know how to use it ....?
Aaron, you were not at the strategy meeting where we learned some of us did not have full knowledge of Gmaps.
Just so you know, there was some construction on Montrose W of Ashland. Its a lot better than it was a few weeks ago but lots of gravel type debree (sp) and big lips on the streets that intersect it. It shouldn't affect the mass that much but I thought I'd make you aware.

I have taken Barbara's map and modified it using Howards southern Clark adjustment. I have also converted it from the google map sketch to a turn by turn directions based map including every round up, http://bit.ly/c70X8N. If you wish to modify it please do so by grabbing one of the white dots or the route lines themselves and dragging them around. Once you're done please click "Link" button in the top right hand corner and get the URL from the "Paste link in email or IM" bar.

Barbra, it's a great map coming to roughly 18.3 miles! We've been having some short routes recently so it's nice to see a longer one will be happening in the near future. So when is the test ride?

I also agree that some side street cuts would be good for the ride towards montrose. Wilson has a bit of construction, so it might not be a great choice, but Sunnyside would be fun...maybe even take Wilson to the Lake. There are usually more pedestrians on Wilson than on Montrose, by the cemetary, so we'd be more visible.

While I agree that Wilson has a far more populous street scene I don't thing Wilson beach is as inviting as Montrose. With that said it's not like there couldn't be a turn back down to Montrose at Clarendon. This way we can swing by both Hope School and the community park!
I agree, Montrose has problems in terrain and bike lanes, and cars are impatient along the cemetery stretch. Wilson in contrast is underused, and has some shared road markings. Where is construction?
Maybe Ravenswood, to Sunnyside to Racine (both rather small, but maybe adequate), to Montrose or Wilson, to beach.
I believe that the construction on Wilson is all west of Ashland. When I rode it a week ago, it wasn't pretty....all steel plates in the road. Wilson beach is connected to the Montrose harbor park, so we could ride through the park to get to Montrose, or whever the ending location is.

I like the Sunnyside idea
