OK, I know there's already a post up about this, but it's pretty old at this point.

I'm planning on riding to Detroit for the US Social Forum (http://www.ussf2010.org) in June. The plan as of now is to leave on the 18th, ride for five days, and arrive hopefully in time for the opening march on June 22nd. I will go only one way, and hopefully be able to throw my bike in someone's van for the ride home.

I'll be riding with a friend, but am wondering if anyone out there is definitely planning on riding as well. Neither of us has done a multi-day tour before, and my experience with the route doesn't go past Gary, IN. Might be interested in riding with others, or at least talking to others who are thinking about what the best route is, where good places to stop are, etc.

I know the Spoke 'n Heart Collective is doing a ride, but their route (which basically follows I-94) seems too high traffic to me, going through basically every city on the way to Detroit. I've done a little online digging, and the League of Michigan Bicyclists has a route that looks a lot friendlier to me that goes from New Buffalo to the Downriver suburbs of Detroit (http://www.lmb.org/index.php/Routes-Maps.html). But what the hell do I know?

So, here are my questions: anyone doing the ride? Anyone not doing it but ridden Chicago -> Detroit before who has some tips? Anyone want to meet up halfway there at the Capri Drive-In in Coldwater to drink whiskey and watch movies?

how many miles per day do you plan on doing?
Between 50-70, depending on stops. That seems both potentially painful and very doable, my two goals for this ride.
