Why is this on the chainlink?

Is it because the CIA dossier includes photographs of Anwar al-Awlaki riding a bike?
Is it because the Pentagon possesses classified drone footage of Anwar al-Awlaki participating in Critical Mass?
Is it because American foreign policy in the Middle East is inextricably linked to oil resources, and anyone or anything connected to Al Qaeda is another reminder of that failed US energy policy, all of which could be ameliorated by more people riding bikes?
Is it because this is an issue which should be of pressing concern to all carbon-based life forms and the members of the chainlink are (mostly) all carbon-based life forms?

I have some very strong opinions about many of the issues raised in the video as well as US foreign policy in general. While I don't always agree with Spencer's inferences, I respect his passion and energy for what, at times, seem to be broad-ranging and disparate issues. I simply don't think this is the appropriate forum.

Kevin, I don't see any reason why it isn't appropriate. This is after all under the category of General Discussion. When you're at a Chainlink bar night do you interrupt conversations when they stray form bike related topics? If the goal is to make the Chainlink into a community then broader topics applicable to everyone must be explored. Otherwise the Chainlink is no different than bikeforums.net.

Moreover, there is a significantly large number of politically active people in the Chicago bike community than I think you are aware.

So what? We have to fight these bastards in an unconventional way, perhaps learn from others' examples. Take a look at MOSSAD for example, PLO bombs a bus, MOSSAD bombs 3, PLO bombs a school, MOSSAD in turn bombs 5...Sometimes you just have to throw out the book and fight these assholes unconventionally...I am sorry but I am all for the constitution and what it stands for except in these matters there needs to be an exception made...You take out a few of these guys and they will think twice about operating in such a way...

Ali, "So what?" Because if we as citizens allow this - then with a stroke of a pen the President can kill anyone without any of our constitutional protections. Thus completely bypassing what little rights we as American's have provided to us by the Constitution and Bill of Rights.The separation of powers constructed during the foundation of America will be utterly without meaning. AND this is exactly the kind of power the Monarchies of Europe possessed that so disgusted the founders that we had a revolution.

OK let me educate you on how these people think, maybe I can just put some sense into your jaded way of looking at things...I am originally from the region and am very familiar with threat of terrorism...Best way to fight these bastards are terrorize them back, and make them realize that attacking USA will be retaliated in a similar and more severe way...They bomb a plane, we shoot down three, they bomb a classroom, we take out a school, sooner or later they will get it, negative reinforcement; eventhough it is somewhat cruel, it works!

Terrorist organizations are selfish, they prey upon the uneducated people and hide behind religion and how it empowers them to fight against the "infidels". Funny thing is that the one book they actually care to pick-up and read which Quran, they misinterpret it.

PKK which operates mostly in eastern Turkey, is a Kurdish faction which is fighting to establish a homeland for the Kurdish people...Sounds good, until you look at their methods...They will raid isolated towns, kill off all the teachers, and kidnap the children to brainwash them into their way of thinking...They kill the teachers because they know an uneducated person is easier to manipulate than an educated one...So back in the 90's the president of the Turkey sat down the militant leader and said "Let's figure out a way to co-exist, what do you want?" The reply was practically 60% of the country...Which is obviously an impossible request and gets shot down. PKK also bombs buses, schools, mosques, and assassinate free thinkers...

Conventional military operations fail against terrorist organizations for a number of reasons...And the war in Iraq, and Afghanistan is stupid at best. There will always instability in that region, rather than trying to help them I say pull out, and let them kill each other...Just leave a few carrier groups in the region in order to retaliate...Fight the terrorism here at home, catch the bastards while they are in the planning stages, make an example out of the first few via a military tribunal as they consider themselves a soldier of Allah, then try them as soldiers...After a dozen or so of these crackheads are executed they will start thinking twice about planning to strap a explosive vest to themselves...

I doubt you'll find many people that disagree with the context of what you're saying, however, what you're espousing is a direct violation of our Constitution when it comes to assassination of an American citizen. When you espouse violating the Constitution for one case, how about another? Where do those violations stop? Our government and system of laws are messy by design; they're meant to protect not only ourselves but others that we disagree with.
