This is discussed frequently among bikers so it's nothing new but it is probably the most well done attempt at explaining the process to a general public that I have seen.

One of my favorite companies is Enocean. All of the devices they make require no connection to the grid and no batteries. They are all self-powered through some form of energy conversion.

My favorite is a wireless remotes control that is powered by the energy required to push the button.
