Holy geez I just realized how soon Texas Independence Day is!! March 2!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Independence_Day  )

Who wants to hang out at a Texasy bar with me? Maybe multiple Texas bars?  Oh my gosh, this is almost as exciting as the prospect of barbecuing (in the snow! in the very near future!) with real smuggled-from-Texas bbq sauce!

Seriously, anybody? Ummm we could meet up somewhere... and ride our bikes! To Texas! (think: real margaritas, micheladas, LONE STAR BEER, omg)

Bar options:

(yes, it's a sports bar, but it's a Texas bar to the max)

(wouldn't mind bringing this place customers that aren't lame yuppies)

Or we could just go eat chili or ribs...

Are there any Texas bars in Chicago - aside from sports bars that are "Texas bars"?

I suggest researching this and posting with ideas for a bar stop (or stops). It would help with getting people interested.
Texas Roadhouse comes to mind out by I-94 in Kenosha. Famous Dave's also in the area and they have a patio that you can eat outside if you want. Like the beef brisket and beans. As for other Texas like bars none come to mind that I have been to lately. Any in your neck of the woods, Michelle?
up.dated.
FAT WILLY'S!!!! :-)I can't go but I love saying that! ;-)

I have not been there in quite a while, but The Horseshoe on Lincoln (a block or two north of Irving) has some pretty great vegan BBQ - and the rotting animal corpse kind of BBQ if that is your thing.

It is not officially a Texas bar, but it looks like they were shooting for that look when they decorated the place. They did have Lone Star last time I was there as well as cheap tall boys of PBR.

Then again my favorite bar in Texas is Lovejoy's in Austin, so I'm hardly a trustworthy authority on this topic.
im not quite up to hosting, actually, just winter BBQing

The horseshoe has country/rockabilly/swing bands playing at times but I think that's only on the weekends. The empty bottle does honky tonk on fridays with $2.50 shiner bocks but that's also on fridays.

Carol's might be a decent spot, not Texas per se but definitely western.

I'll be out of town darnit! I love Texas, almost moved there after a friend did, but he's back now. My current GF is from there, she does not love it as much as me though :)

Smoques is really good, I don't think it is a bar, but I've been there with friends from DFW and they liked it, if that's any sort of endorsement.

Those empty butt hole honky tonk shows are early - way early as in Happy Hour early 5:30 or 6:00PM or something like that - which can be a great thing for those of us who no longer stay up late.

And just for the record, I likes the Shiner Bock a LOT better than Lone Star. Lone Star is just american contract brewed swill (like PBR).
I am super pro (relatively-mild-because-it-is-a-Tuesday-after-all) house party grilling action. Lemme see what I can do...
