Chicagoland Beer Exploration Society

Information

Chicagoland Beer Exploration Society

Every member of the Society (CBES) should aspire to have a beer at every brewery or brewpub located in a day or two bicycle ride distance from Chicago (and, of course, within the city limits).

Naturally, preferable way of getting to is by bike, as for riding back . . . whatever is available, train, bus, horse and buggy, depending on amount of beverages consumed at the destination.

Routes on Ride with GPS, here.

On Facebook, here.

On Twitter, here.

Lists of breweries and brewpubs (and other beer things): on Facebook, and on Twitter.

Ouch! I didn’t see that that was a link! I’ll ask them about it the next time I’m there. Maybe Friday? Anybody else up for a beer run?

a big moment that we must meet with big ideas” got my hopes up. not only closing streets to cars, but also universal basic income? Medicare for all who want it?

Hoping that this will promote a long-lasting cultural shift :)

Meanwhile, watch out for swerving newbies.

With respect to Sweden, there is an article in todays New York Times that the number of deaths during the epidemic has increased 30% during the pandemic, similar to the US rate, and much higher than neighboring Scandinavian countries (e.g.: Norway and Finland are < 1%).

That seems to be a variation on the old Dutch bike helmet argument.  Wearing them gives you (and according to at least one study, the motorists around you) a false sense of security that leads to more risk taking behavior.  If no one is wearing a mask, maybe physical distancing will be enhanced...

went to a place, maybe they wouldn't want me to say who. they weren't doing curbside pickup. i walked in, and there was a guy behind the bar. next to the bar was the list of what was on tap. i asked if they did flights. it was so automatic, lol. he said he couldn't serve me there, duh. but then he poured me a couple tastes. a gradual reopening! :-)
