so why were these dudes prancing around in the street?
I live a few blocks away from this intersection. Rival gangs fight over turf and this specific incident has been going on for 3 days straight. I believe it is Vice Lords Vs either the 4 Corner Hustlers or P-Stones. Silly, and stupid!
Ummm, does anyone else think that pointing out the bike theft is like saying that a tornado fucked up your hairdo?

Seems the fact that people are fighting in the streets isn't important here. That's kind of frightening, especially to me, since I take Broadway south which crosses Leland just a few blocks west of where this was filmed (Sheridan and Leland according to uptownupdate.com)

WTF?
Think about how these gangs get their power. They have power because they have money. They have money because they sell drugs. They sell drugs because it is easy money. Think about what you support when buying your next dime bag.
That shit is mad crazy yo!
Who here buys pot from gangbangers?

Um... those cops looked, to say the least, lazy....
Haha, I love how relaxed you are in your comment. "live a few blocks from there. silly and stupid."

No one is driving from the suburbs to Uptown for crap weed filled with seeds. It's all about Crack, Heroin, and Coke in these parts. I can't tell you how many times I witness people shooting up in the alley or smoking crack when I leave my building for a ride.

There are so many homeless people around here that the gangs have an endless supply of clients. Yeah, I'm sure they sell a bit of weed here and there but not enough to start fighting over turf. I go to as many C.A.P.S. meetings as I can and it's amazing how lawless the streets in Uptown really are. The really scary thing is that these idiots shoot at each other all the time, mostly missing each other and hitting innocent bystandards. Last year a dude was gunned down in broad daylight at 3pm on Sherridan right in front of JJ Pepers. This shit happens all the time and our alderman refuses to care and actually goes out of her way to make sure nothing stands in these idiots way. She is actually building a new "Caprini Green" at Montrose and Broadway with the help of the Mayer to relocate residents in Caprini Green to Uptown so they can finally enlarge the area of the Gold Coast. My property taxes were raised recently to pay for this monstrosity instead of going to our local schools, police and F.D. and it sits between 2 of the most active gang territories in Uptown. What you see in the video is only going to get worse once this building gets filled up.

I also have several videos of bangers out side my building selling crack and guns. This is the unfortunate side effect of Chicago's housing programs. Keep the poor poor and pack 'em in as dense as they can creating an environment for crime while the developers, Alderman and Mayer rake it in at our expense. Corruption at its finest. People around here have to worry about getting shot or robbed by someone in desperation for another quick fix. I came close to getting mugged the other night but knew what was up and was luckily able to avoid it, just barely.

Meanwhile we have Andersonville to the North (Thriving), Wrigleyville to the South (Thriving) and Ravenswood/Lakeview to the West (Thriving) yet Uptown is getting worse and worse. What's wrong with this picture. How can one Alderman stay in power for over 20 years especially when so many hate her? Easy, corruption. Welcome to Chicago!

BTW, I have nothing against the poor or lower income housing as a whole. The problem is that the system puts them all together as densely as possible and gives them no incentive to get out of the system and make a life for themselves without it. This has been going on for nearly 3 decades so it just gets worse and worse and the gangs are an inevitable outcome of this process. It is truly sad and humanity at its worst.
lol, sorry for my rant :( Just happens to be a topic of concern I ponder quite often. Almost as much as anything related to bicycles.
If it wasn't for the fact that I know better than to actually do it, I would love to sit on a roof top and get some target practice in with my hunting rifle on these useless creatures.
You so live in my old 'hood!

I hated it there, so many morons and it was a mess.

You are 100% right, your alderman is looking to keep that area horrible, it's what keeps her in office!
