suspicious bike "for sale" (Humboldt Park) thursday night

Not sure if this is appropriate - but I would want someone to post if it were mine...

I was walking by the bus stop at Calif / North Thursday night (circa 11pm)
and saw a local couple hanging out there (there is a transient hotel across the street)
and the woman said the single speed was "hers and for sale", there is NO WAY
she was the rider of this bike. They told me I could have it (I was only seeing if the
rear wheel was true) for 'sixty bucks'...when I said no the guy just said "OK..give us
forty cash".

I kept walking but feel that if this were stolen - I'd want someone to post about
its whereabouts.

Here is what I remember :

single-speed (freewheel)
rear wheel was a mavic rim with 20mm tires
front wheel had a quick release
handlebars were minimal - straight bars with grippy black BMX grips
1 brake - black lever
frame : dark brownish in color - no mfr name or labels

If anyone had this bike stolen I have a hunch where these two hang out.

OK - happy Friday everyone; the skavenger hunt and art exhibit last night
rocked.

Oh...my team was called 'the missing links'

good ideas - thanks.

I was more perplexed than anything.
I wanted to tell them they could not possibly be the riders of that thing....but in this neighborhood
you must MYOFB at all times.

Next time this happens, duck around the corner and call a friend who you think might be glued to the internet-- in this case you'd have them google "stolen brown fixed chicago" or something similar and see if there's anything on the Chicago Stolen Bike Registry. If it's not there I'd assume the person didn't care enough about the bike to make sure there's a record of it accessible via google.
At this point there would be nothing anyone could do even if the owner came forward.
