Posted my thefts on Chicago Stolen Bike Registry. Someone broke into the basement of our condo building and made off with my black Gazelle Classic Oma and my daughter's red Linus Lil' Dutchi 20-inch.

After filing a police report I was called by a detective and then she came by a couple hours later to look at our alley and to go ask neighbors with security cameras on the alley for access to their footage. I was not expecting that.

Here are the postings for the bikes:

I've done one walk around at Swap-o-Rama this last weekend (stolen on Thursday) and will probably go there a few more times.

Someone mentioned Maxwell St Market as a place to check as well, is that true?

Strange that the police seem to care. I wonder if they think the theft was related to something else. And Maxwell Street market, Craigslist, and EBay are all good places to look.

There has been an uptick in reported incidents on my street in recent months, including a brazen attempted break-in of the unit below mine. Couple weeks ago someone jumped over the fence of our neighbors, and there have been other reports of police being called after someone saw people in the alley seeming to be checking doors or taking pictures of doors. So it could be because of the overall collection of stuff reported. I only expected a "We'll call you if we happen to find it" kind of response, not an actual detective assigned to the case.
