so, i know it's not really winter, but we can still get together and hang out and do BikeWintery things!

maybe a christmas in july event, or that TYPO ride i've been wanting to do for so long. maybe we could get some knitting circles going, or start making balaclavas to hand out come autumn. maybe some pre-season workshops to show fair-weather cyclists on how easy and fun it is to keep riding in cooler weather. and i'd love to have a BYOB screenprinting event (bring your own baselayer) so people can screen "BikeWinter Warrior" or "I Survived BikeWinter 2009" or whatever onto their clothes.

i'm sure there are some other ideas out there... whatcha got?

I'm totally in to show people how easy it is to bike in the winter months.
What about a summer-layers ride?

The key i learned in Chicago winters is layers. Lots of them. The appropriate ones. What about a ride that starts (regardless of heat!) with all riders decked out in winter gear...the whole nine yards....hats.....jackets....gloves....goggles, etc.. Points in the ride could be de-layering spots and a huge trailer (Howard.....)complete with signage, and a layers depository. Sort of a dumptruck trailer where the sides have info about bikewinter, and we'll sort out our layers later....Obviously, people would need to lable the clothing they were willing to throw in there....but i think it is a humorous way to convey a simple idea.

Winter bike riding is completely about your preparation and how adaptable your set-up is.

Just a thought.
Obviously, its colder in winter (duh). During my commute, however, it is also darker. We can't simulate riding in winter's cold, but we can wait around until it gets dark out. How about a bike-lights-and-visibility-comparison night? We could compare bike headlights, reflective vests, blinkies, whatever you are going to run this winter to see and be seen.
