Hi there... I'm looking for a bike enthusiast to lead my 3rd grade (9 year olds) Cub Scout Troop (12 of them) in a bike maintenance event at Smith Park (Ukrainain Village). I'd love to have someone teach them how to do a DIY tune-up, etc. Each boy would bring his own bike so it would be hands on. Thinking 1 hour on a Sunday, your choice in time perhaps Sun Sept 11th. This would be a great way to fun way to make a great impact on kids! If you have kids of your own, bring them too! I will them lead them on some fun bike activities afterwards, I'd be happy to watch your children for that as well. Pretty please????? Please message me if interested! We will also provide lemonade and snack for your time and dedication :). Thank you! --Erica Carli, Cub Scout Troop leader amongst other things

Altho I'm out in Oak Park I could easily make a pilgrimage down to the 'city'. I am a self trained wrench but could get a crew thru a nut tightening, lube and inspection tour of the usual variations of bikes that children ride. If you don't get a more local experienced mechanic let me know...
Jeff Markus...I'm in the phone book, boy talk about old school.
I wish I was closer as it sounds like fun. I'd allow more time if you plan on any actual maintenance taking place. Someone could give a talk about general bike maintenance in an hour but hands on bike fixing with 9 year olds is more complicated. Perhaps each of the kids' bikes could be checked out for things that need attention, but I could see an adult spending an hour or more getting each of their bikes tuned up.
