Seeking to foster networking between such people, and to learn of the issues effecting them. I see this as an inevitable growth industry locally, having seen it in high use outside the US, and am impressed by the individuals I've seen doing it in Chicago. If you HAVE DRIVEN a pedicab or OWN one or more please join this group.

Josh, the city prosecutor declined to press charges and dropped the ticket like I expected. It was funny in that it was the exact same woman who threw out the previous bullshit ticket I got a few weeks earlier.
As I was leaving, I cheerfully said "see you next month", but miraculously I haven't received anymore bullshit tickets since then. Came very close three or four times, most recently a week ago during the protest against the Afghanistan surge where Cmdr Keating did his best to drive me off.
BTW, a couple months ago I was perusing the the city's ordinance code and was surprised to see that picking up hitch hikers is illegal. I think it was in the motor vehicle code. Not sure if it ever is applied to cyclists. There is something in the bicycle section that says something like all motor vehicle codes apply to bicycles except when they don't...
One other surprise was an ordinance requiring all bikes to be registered with the precinct commander. I wasn't aware of anyone ever doing this. I never have. And the registration required info like make/model, serial #, color, date and location of purchase, etc. It didn't see to accomodate home builts well.
Ironically a couple weeks after making that previous post I got a ticket for giving someone a ride home from a party. However, I expect the ticket to be thrown out because the ordinance reads "carrying a passenger on a vehicle or a portion thereof not designed or intended for a passenger." and I designed and built my trailer and the bench seat upon which the passenger was riding intentionally for the use of passengers.
Fortunately no incident has yet occurred to open me up to a liability suit.
I don't have a pedicab, but I carry passengers regularly on my bike trailer. I sometimes get flagged down by people looking for a ride and I oblige when their destination is in the direction I was going. I've wondered if giving free rides without any license, permit, etc. breaks any laws?
