rik i took the lakefront path for most of the trip till around 71st...you are right that my speed was a little too fast for a group ride that 'masses' but for most group rides 16mph is way slow....I ride on mass rides for companionship and revelry hence my penchant for bars and making merry. If I want to really ride I go solo...the gutterball takes no prisoners...

Was thinking you could be joined with the ranks of happy, well-adjusted individuals.
(and if it seems to work I might try it too . . .)

What is it that you need joined?

That means you average speed is about 16.25 mph
minus the stop time so you go at about 19 mph. That is way to fast for a group ride.
I used to ride at that 16 mph all day long in back in 1977. Today I can only go about 10 mph all day long. When a big defensive farm dog is chasing me down the road then maybe 17 - 20 mph.

I rode from my house (addison and broadway) to Hegewisch and back over the summer and stopped for water and a flat and a slice of cherry pie yet was home within 4 hours - like 65 miles round trip....Its a sweet ride and didn't have a beer! I guess know I will...
