Tony, I love your point that this group, North Side Critical Mass, could readily include riders coming in from all over, just as we many go downtown. NSCM could well draw from nearby suburbs. THAT's why this group needs to be, in addition to the North Side Riders general group.
If it took me this long to get it, yeah, let's sharpen up both group's intros, someday.

yeah, agreed, its a bit redundent to have 2 groups. I can update/edit the far north side riders group. Just let me know what you want added to the description and I'll add it.

You don't have to live on the North~Side to be in this group. If you ride with us then you should be here. We as a group talk about masses, & we mainly do are routes on the North~Side. This doesn't mean that sometimes we may go outside of the North~Side. If there's a good band we may end our ride there! Wicker Park can post there own group if there chose to do so. We ride a Critical Mass. I try to keep it from having the same problems as C.C.M. is facing now with the corkers drinking. I don't have a problem if you drink, but there could be problems if you take your frustration out on cars with u-locks, etc... I just want to see a Happy~Friday ride. There's alot of poeple that like are ride, & they just come because of the up sprit that it brings.

Buddaa has rightly emphasized that the group rides in the "Far" north, and that's why the name of the other group was changed to the Far North Side Riders. The big Far group covers all activity in the region, including the Far North Side Critical Mass.

I still think it's confusing to have this smaller group. It would be easy to look at one group, forget the other, and miss stuff. News posted here SHOULD also be posted in the Far Group, which doubles the work of promoters.

The distinction as I understand it, is that this smaller group focuses on the 2nd-Fridays monthly masses only.

Sharing my unfolding understanding...
The other group is for far north side riders, generally, on any topics. This group is specifically in support of the north side mass, but inherently becomes the most common topic in the other group. That makes sense. But still, that makes this group a subset of a group too small to require subsets. I'd say I'm just being fussy about cross-postings, but I'm hearing most others also thinking similar.
I suggest:
1. The other group needs a real description. Including mention of "North Side Critical Mass" would make it show up in searches.
2. If TheChainLink has multiple admins capability, that would eliminate the "who's group" question.
3. If must be two, clarify the distinction (and cross link) in the opening sentence.

Oops, I actually meant to NOT join this group. Darn button hover auto click. Well since I'm here, Tony (buddaa38) and I are tight, so absolutely nothing personal, but I can't support THIS group because it's redundant to the other. Julie and you and I are all tight, so it's not like they're competitive groups, or greatly divergent interests or such. That's why the shortcut I made at http://massup.us/-nscm goes to that other group.
If I gleaned right, there are two groups because one doesn't use "Critical Mass" in the name because it may have negative connotations to some, whereas the other embraces that umbrella name.
Frankly I'd strongly recommend that the smaller group immediately transition unique members to larger and disband. I'm motivated by love of standards, but also I'm hearing a lot of confusion from users, and being united matters.
Julie, Tony, etc, let's talk.
Regardless, that massup shortcut can now be replaced by the more comprehensive new landing page which links to both groups. Recommended URL for future print use:
