YES BIKES RULE!

The "group beer run" has sort of become the default plan on most rides when directive leadership is lacking.
If we could ever get chainlink customizable, there should be a "gbr" box to check or leave unchecked when entering an event listing so people know what to expect.

I was mildly disappointed that Tony couldn't make the ride and that we didn't do much riding.

But I've been on plenty of rides both group and solo where things didn't go as planned. It's a shame that none of us, myself included, were prepared to make more of the situation. I think most of us were lulled into a state of passivity because the ride usually goes smoothly.

Me too. I'm thinking of starting a group for us BWW members. (Bike Winter Wimps)

Thank you H3N3 for reminding us of the advantages of healthy debate. It is sooooo refreshing. Who agrees that everyone should just agree to disagree? We live in a country that its legal to do that (inside the law).

I have to say, I am starting to feel guilty that I have been virtually nonexistant on the NSCM's this winter. Thank you all for getting me excited about joining my north side brothers and sisters this spring/summer for some of my favorite rides in my 'hood.

thanks for standing up for the integrity of the discussion.
Atilla
I feel the love. Thanks for the upgrade. I was always told that I was a TOTAL jerk.
Now i am only borderline. Lets move the personal stuff and name calling off this group page. You can put on my page.
I like Aaron's bike and beer.

Marne is heretoforth to be referred to as "Atilla."

The question has come up recently as to why the critical mass list has "died." There was a time when people passionately expressed their views, and it made for great reading, and you couldn't be on that list without caring.
And, believe it or not, it was contentious at times, and continued to be great.
And then, somehow, people, presumably new people, began to express intolerance for passionate discourse-- whenever people who understood and cared about the ride began to disagree, someone invariably jumped in and demanded that they stop the "bickering." And those "someones" are who killed the list.
What would be so hard about just reading what Rik has to say, agreeing/disagreeing/ignoring, but not trying to stamp Rik down? It's really really sad that people no longer tolerate thoughtful discourse and that nobody who really cares about something is understood.
Kudos to Tony for taking Rik's criticism constructively and not reflexively trying to shut him up or drive him off.
