Holstein Park, featuring a tricky-dicky route cutting through the Goethe playlot? Holstein has a shelter south of the pool if the weather is bad.

I would be happy to ride/suggest a route but unfortunately will not be around for the actual ride since we are scheduled to go camping that weekend. It is best, i think, if the person who's going to lead the ride tests it out for him or herself first.

Karen, that looks like a great choice. It does look a bit tricky to get to, but I think we've got sufficient experience now to pull it off. I'd like to do a short jog on Milwaukee ave. Although it's a busier street then we usually ride on, there's so many cyclists on Milwaukee that it seems the car traffic is more aware and bike friendly than other major streets. Crossing Western is probably the worst thing we'd have to do. Any suggestions for the best crossing spot?

crossing western at lyndale is best. there's a light and the street is a one-way going east until it becomes a two-way after western.

Karen & Todd (et al):

Holstein sounds like a good destination. Here's a potential route that would provide lots of boulevard riding:
-- North on Kedzie from Palmer Square to the Monument;
-- East on Logan Boulevard to Rockwell or Campbell ( whichever one is One Way south);
-- South to Lyndale;
-- East on Lyndale to Holstein.

I'll try to ride this in the next couple of days and have a look at Holstein as a potentialsite for the BW demo.

Dear Kidical Cyclistas:

Yesterday, I scouted a potential route from Palmer Square to Holstein Park. Here's what I came up with:

-- North from Palmer Square on Kedzie Blvd.;
-- Pay our respects to the Centennial Monument and perhaps circle the square (can this be done safely?);
-- East on Logan Bvld. to Maplewood;
-- South on Maplewood to Fullerton;
-- Dogleg at Fullerton to Rockewell; South on Rockwell to Lyndale;
-- East on Lyndale to Holstein Park; Playground activities for the young 'uns and Bike Winter proselytizing for the rest of us.

What d'yall think?

If you recall, we cut through the square heading north from Johnny's Grill corner and then made the left round by Paseo on our way to Unity Park. I did not feel comfortable doing the whole circle.
