Ride of Silence - May 15, 2024 - One day. One time. World wide.

Join the annual Ride of Silence, an organized annual cycling procession honoring those that have been injured or killed. The goal is to raise awareness that we are here, and to ask that we all share the road.

Save the date for the 2025 Chicago Ride Of Silence - May 21, 2025

Our route typically passes several Ghost Bikes, which are powerful memorials to fallen cyclists created by painting a bicycle white and placing it at or near the site of the cyclist’s death.

DATE: May 15, 2024 (always the 3rd Wednesday of May)
TIME: Gather at 6:00 pm
WHERE: Hundreds of locations world wide; Dickens Greenway Plaza in Lincoln Park, Chicago
One day. One Time. World wide.

Communities throughout Chicagoland participate in the Ride of Silence including: Arlington Heights, Bartlett, Elk Grove Village, Evanston, Joliet, Oak Park and Peoria.

Wherever you ride, we ride in unity.

I looked back at the Channel 7 blip on their website. The link is in an earlier comment on TheChainLink from Elizabeth.

A comment was posted today and I've quoted it here. This is why we organize the ride. It truly is meaningful to the families and friends of those for whom we remember. See you all next year, 3rd Wednesday evening in May.

"As the mother of one of the fallen, there were more than dozens or riders paying tribute and honor as an act of love, compassion, and a commitment to the safety of cyclists. Whoever rode, it was a completely selfless act of profound love and unity of spirit. We all were clear of who the fallen were for their loved ones and how profoundly missed they are. Thank you to who lit the 3 candles @ Clint's bike. Thank you to Dan and the police officer who tweaked my bicycle to working order and thank you Cycle Smithey yo..."

Though NBC/Telemundo interviewed us at Daley Plaza, we got a snippet of coverage on ABC 10pm news:

In fact, a couple of people have already told me they saw it! Good thing ABC is the most watched news.

I'm so sorry I couldn't make it tonight. I took a nasty spill yesterday and just got out of the hopital this afternoon. Thanks for all you do.

The Ride of Silence is a free event for participants but unfortunately NOT a zero cost event to run. For anyone participating who would like to make a donation, please seek out the organizer for your local event and help out in any way you can. Rest assured it will be appreciated.
