World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) is an international clothing-optional bike (or other person powered) event where participants ride en masse for the dual purpose of bringing attention to people powered transport and promoting positive body image. For a great overview see WikiPedia.

The event is bare-as-you-dare; anything from body paint to underwear to fanciful costumes are encouraged. Due to legal restrictions in Chicago, full frontal nudity is at your own risk, but large numbers of participants do go all out. Large-scale body painting is typically available pre-ride, and personal expression is encouraged. Cyclists familiar with Critical Mass (which is massive in Chicago) can simply see this as a special clothing optional additional June mass.

Chicago's past events included many hundreds of cyclist and numerous inline skaters, and covered over a dozen miles of high visibility city areas. In 2008 the 5th annual event drew a staggering 1700 riders! Blessed by decent summer weather in a great cycling city, the event has grown into a fantastic rolling celebration, with similarities to other major alternative parades world-wide. Participants often describe it as a transcendent group experience, personally transforming, and beyond superlative.

This CL group is intended for unmoderated chatter and thread following. For announcements make sure to also join the mailing list at http://ChicagoNakedRide.org/join

Forwarded from a Madison naked ride fan (http://nakedwiki.org/?title=madison):

People on this List have seen the announcement of the World Naked Bike Ride Madison (Wisconsin) scheduled a week after the Chicago ride.

If you like Chicago you'll love Madison. I'm a long-time Chicagoan but I have a house in the country not far from Madison and I am acquainted with the city.

It's not only the state capital, the University of Wisconsin main campus is right near the Capitol area (and the dome). That puts a bunch of good restaurants and stores all in one place. And the whole city, including the downtown area is CLEAN. The population is 200,000 with no run-down areas I've run into. The students run around looking very counter-cultural, which includes wild hairdos and colors, implying a bunch of naked cyclists wouldn't be all that far out. And it's 145 miles from downtown Chicago via I-90. Just ignore the turnoff for the Dells, bear left and exit left following 12 & 18 west, a 6-lane called the Beltline (it passes along the belly button of the city). Major big box stores on both sides.Rocky Rococo pizza places are all over and are easily as good as Giordano's, Bacino's, Pizzeria Uno/Due or anything you can get in Chicago. (Plus say you have a coupon but forgot it at home and they'll give you the coupon price.) Right (North) on the Park Street exit off the Beltline will get you to the University/ Capitol area within a few miles. (Left is US 14 which may sound familiar as it's Lake Shore Drive in Chicago.) Or turn off at the next exit, Midvale (Right, going North) and another right at University. You'll pass a lot of good stores, like Whole Foods and Bagels Forever.

I don't know the bike route the ride will be using but as long as you stay off the high speed roads you'd have a hard time picking a bad one (there are bike paths). The place is bicycle friendly.
