World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) is an international clothing-optional bike (or other person powered) event where participants ride en masse for the dual purpose of bringing attention to people powered transport and promoting positive body image. For a great overview see WikiPedia.

The event is bare-as-you-dare; anything from body paint to underwear to fanciful costumes are encouraged. Due to legal restrictions in Chicago, full frontal nudity is at your own risk, but large numbers of participants do go all out. Large-scale body painting is typically available pre-ride, and personal expression is encouraged. Cyclists familiar with Critical Mass (which is massive in Chicago) can simply see this as a special clothing optional additional June mass.

Chicago's past events included many hundreds of cyclist and numerous inline skaters, and covered over a dozen miles of high visibility city areas. In 2008 the 5th annual event drew a staggering 1700 riders! Blessed by decent summer weather in a great cycling city, the event has grown into a fantastic rolling celebration, with similarities to other major alternative parades world-wide. Participants often describe it as a transcendent group experience, personally transforming, and beyond superlative.

This CL group is intended for unmoderated chatter and thread following. For announcements make sure to also join the mailing list at http://ChicagoNakedRide.org/join

I hope next year will be warmer and less rainy, funny, I have said that almost every year.

Still had a blast despite some of the stupid people.

I also heard some of the male riders shouting to female spectators (mostly drunk Trixies were addressed): "Show us your tits!"

Um, the ride was not about "showing tits" (and this was yelled at non-participants anyway!).

Sheesh.

there was one guy at the other BP that was about to have his video camera taken from him. he was in the middle of the riders and pushing the lens up to every titty that rode by. i saw a few women put their tops back on at this spot

Big, big thanks to all of the security guys (Gabe, Doug, Lee, Dana, Brian, and all of the others who I am forgetting at the moment). Thanks for keeping it safe and sane.

And yes, there were a lot of dongs there, both riders and spectators (one guy at the BP on LaSalle/Clark was putting his camera up to women's boobs and taking photos - I rode by him and said, "F*ck off, perv!" but he was too busy salivating to hear me).

Doug's comment about the littering makes me sad. That sucks, and totally is against the spirit of the ride. People are stupid. :(

Has anyone noticed almost all the craigslist missed connections on the CL homepage are related to the ride?

I was not in the video, thankfully... did any of you see or hear about this?

As fun as the ride was I am going to take a minute here and bitch and moan about something I found to be terribly, terribly wrong with it. Something I consider to be a serious issue that really should be addressed next year.

Litter.

And not just a little either.

I was one of the last people out of the 'rest stop' and the condition that we, as a group, left the park in was a travesty of justice. There is no reason that we, a ride that claims to be protesting for the environment, should leave the streets and a public park riddled with litter. I can not imagine that there is anyone reading this who is unable to see the blatant ignorance and hypocrisy of this ride leaving a public green space is a state of disgrace.

The worst I saw was a group of dongs who threw a bunch of beer cans and a 12 pack of Budweiser cans down on the street. When I suggested the pick up their trash the response was 'It's Lincoln Park, they have people to pick it up.'

How classist and ignorant can you get?

I hate to sound overly violent but people like that deserve a firm punch in the genitals.
