Chicagoland Beer Exploration Society

Every member of the Society (CBES) should aspire to have a beer at every brewery or brewpub located in a day or two bicycle ride distance from Chicago (and, of course, within the city limits).

Naturally, preferable way of getting to is by bike, as for riding back . . . whatever is available, train, bus, horse and buggy, depending on amount of beverages consumed at the destination.

OK, that settles it. Oh, well. As Russians say, первый блин комом (I'll leave it to you to translate this ;)

i just called and they are not open until Feb 7th and they  were not willing to have people come thru until then. Anybody have another idea, being that we will have some snow down on the ground it might be better to keep it local. Thoughts?

Route: something like this, the starting point could be different, of course.

Here's their phone no.: 773 779 2739

More info here (their website is still under construction).

Thank you, Deet :)

Sorry, peepl, been a bit busy at work to keep you informed here.

As you probably know, there is another brewery opening this very week (the grand event is scheduled for February). It's the Horse Thief Hollow, on the southside.

I've contacted them about visiting, they said, and I quote, "any time from 10:00–5:00." My further inquiry as to how many people can go, what kind of payment they accept has not been answered yet.

So . . . tentatively . . .

How about this upcoming Sunday, to be there around noon?

Here's their address: 10426 S Western Ave.

I'd appreciate if some of you also contact them and ask whether it's OK for us to inspect their fermentation tanks this Sunday, as I'm rather busy this week (see above).

Sounds good?

a home brew thing would be great i know a couple of people that do it and i always have a batch of something working.  It would be cool if we could find a BYOB or another cool establishment that would welcome a tasting. I know the owner of the Pecking Order, she might be game, no pun intended. Again a simple function to talk about ideas and up coming rides seems like good place to start planning for the summer.

i like the idea of keeping it local for Febuary, we could then see what the turn out is and possibly bring some routes with us and discuss what the should do in the upcoming months. What date are we talking about for next one? February 2nd?
