Information

Chicagoland Beer Exploration Society

Every member of the Society (CBES) should aspire to have a beer at every brewery or brewpub located in a day or two bicycle ride distance from Chicago (and, of course, within the city limits).

Naturally, preferable way of getting to is by bike, as for riding back . . . whatever is available, train, bus, horse and buggy, depending on amount of beverages consumed at the destination.

i would be up to a monthly trip, i would like to ride both ways though. my schedule is tight for weekends until mid may, but through the summer and the fall i am all for it.

LOL. I thought it would have some photos of specific Chainlink members.

i'm thinking:

  1. 2 sparrows
  2. fischman
  3. moonshine
  4. maria's
  5. local option

on 2/16. fischman and moonshine would be new for me. the default google maps route is 30.4 mi.

Has anyone already thrown out the idea of going to Half Acre for a brewery tour? I've done their tour before, and by far, it's the best brewery tour I've experienced. Of course, we might not be in good shape to ride to another brewery, or even home, after that tour. :)

The Chicago Magazine list sounds pretty good, but I'll tell you, I avoid Hopleaf because it gets uncomfortably crowded in there. Sunday afternoon might be fine, but on a peak night, forget it.

Also, 2/16 is good.

I'll add my vote for 2/16...

Comment by bobweiser on February 6, 2013 at 2:29pm

ok, that's 0 votes for 2/9 and 2 for 2/16 so far.

any suggestions as far as where to go? what do you all think of what chicago magazine considered The 6 Best Craft Beer Havens? i liked starting with breakfast at 2 sparrows, and was disappointed we didn't make it to local option, last year.
