Yup that's pretty close to what I have in mind but ideally I would like to get on the Des Plaines River Trail further south than Lake Cook Rd. From that thread it sounds like it's ride-able north of Demptster but I'll do a pre-ride the weekend before to check on conditions. Then determine where to pick up the trail. I was planning on getting on the trail at Devon anyway so a bit further north is no biggie. 

Adam thanks for the suggestion but it's the Des Plaines River Trail I'd like to ride since I haven't ridden that trail before. I'd be up to do your route later this year! 

I think I'll post this for Sat May 11. Soon as I have some time today. That way we don't have to worry about Tighthead or Lake Bluff's closing time.

The Cook County portion is a little, er, rugged.  But it is a nice ride up that way.  I've done the ride to Libertyville from Oaktonish on.

You could do this trip in reverse and start at lake Bluff via the Skokie Valley trail and then wind your way to Libertyville and take the Metra back.  I'll see if I can find the route Envane/Alex took us on last year.

I've never ridden the trail so that would be good to know. We can always take the north branch trail partway. 

Sunday Apr 28 or May 5 were dates I was also looking at. Only drawback is it would mean an earlier start since Lake Bluff Brewing closes at 6 on Sundays.

Isn't the Cook County section of the trail a little rugged for road bikes?  Might have to look into a backup route if that's the case, the Lake County section is much smoother though.

I've never ridden the Des Plaines River Trail and I'm itching to check it out. There are also 3 brewpubs in the north burbs that I'd like to check out. Therefore I propose:

- Meet at Logan Square - ride 10 miles to Des Plaines River Trail

- Ride 30 miles north on the Des Plaines River Trail to Mickey Finn's Brewery where we have lunch and beer!

- Ride 3 miles to Tighthead Brewing where we have more beer! No restaurant there but we'll be full from Mickey Finn's.

- Take the north shore bike path 9 miles to Lake Bluff Brewing for even more beer! Looks like they have sandwiches and pizza also. 

- From there take metra home from Lake Bluff or ride 30 miles back to Chicago on the McClory and Green Bay Trails

Total would be a bit over 50 miles to Lake Bluff.  I'm thinking Saturday May 11 as the date. 

What does everyone think?

I was going to suggest the Lake Geneva brewery.  A few years back I did a Harvard to Lake Geneva to Woodstock ride.  I'll see if I can dig up the route.  Most of the ride was on low traffic back roads with some hills.

I think I like too. We could finish up at Stockholm's in Geneva, before taking the train back.

If that is too daunting, how about going to Wild Onion in Barrington to end there? We could take the UPNW back home
