Information

Chicagoland Beer Exploration Society

Every member of the Society (CBES) should aspire to have a beer at every brewery or brewpub located in a day or two bicycle ride distance from Chicago (and, of course, within the city limits).

Naturally, preferable way of getting to is by bike, as for riding back . . . whatever is available, train, bus, horse and buggy, depending on amount of beverages consumed at the destination.

Glad you got out, too, Serge.  It was a nice day to explore.

Ramon - the tour was nice and worth the hour spent. I had already tried a few of their whiskies and really like the rye. Their honey liqueur is quite nice as well.

The tour gave me a small but nice appreciation for what goes into producing a high quality whiskey vs. a medium to low quality. I'm sure much of that in principle applies to craft beers.

Nice solo CBES ride Saturday to Penrose and Emmett's.  Skipped Vintage Vintner after discovering a flight at Emmett's consists of one of everything on tap — 10 beers!

I'm leading a ride out to Chicago Brew Werks in Plainfield, as their on-site all-electric brewery (Werk Force Brewing) has now started pouring their own beers.

My ride leaves from Naperville, with CBW as the midway point of a 30-mile ride: http://www.napervillebikeclub.com/ride-calendar/calendar_ride_detai...

Feel free to join the ride, or just meet us there around 12:15-12:30.

Rich - please report back on the tour. I've been wanting to do the same. The two or three products I've tasted have been very good, though a bit more than I like to spend.

I'm busy all weekend so won't be doing much riding. On a side note I'm taking a tour of the Koval Distillery for some local craft whiskey tasting!

Weather looks reasonable tomorrow yet I dont see a ride scheduled.  Perhaps a Fox Valley redux:  Penrose, Emmett's (W Dundee), Village Vintner?

thought i already posted this, but apparently not:

in nyc over the weekend and heard A Fight Is Brewing. the evil twin had moved there, and each was continuing to collaborate with somebody here, ET with the aviary and mikkeller with 3F. a new brewpub is in the works! but we won't be able to ride there.

I rode Canal Bank Road with a friend about a month ago, just south and east of the portage woods. We rode to the quarry, snapped a few pics, and then turned around. The place was very empty on an early sunday morning.
