Information

Chicagoland Beer Exploration Society

Every member of the Society (CBES) should aspire to have a beer at every brewery or brewpub located in a day or two bicycle ride distance from Chicago (and, of course, within the city limits).

Naturally, preferable way of getting to is by bike, as for riding back . . . whatever is available, train, bus, horse and buggy, depending on amount of beverages consumed at the destination.

Serge, I'm planning on riding July 5th ... but if I party too hard on the 4th and can't get out of bed in time then I would be game to ride with you.

Hey Dan, if you're planning on taking the Green Bay or McClory trails, you should know that they are really soaked at the moment.   I rode them last weekend without fenders and it was a limestone nightmare. (slight exaggeration)

Did you see the piece on Gary, which mentioned 18th Street, in the Tribune travel section? It was an adventure getting there on Saturday.

Missed the turn onto Airport Road, rode through a rough (because it was under construction) section, kept going even after I realized I wasn't where I was supposed to be because I didn't want to go back through the construction, rode over a small bridge that was "out" (but looked solid enough) only to find that the road almost immediately ended, walked my bike through a field to abandoned railroad tracks and over an abandoned railroad bridge, noticed up there over the interstate that a road bridge was next to me, decided not to try to cross the 2-foot gap, clambered over on solid ground, and then had traffic going by at 55 mph, but there was plenty of shoulder and it was only 1/4 mi. to 5th Ave., and from there it was easy.  :-)

Serge, for this Sunday's ride do you have anything in mind for lunch stop? If not I've heard good things about Tribe's Ale House in Tinley although it would mean deviating from your route a bit. I'd also be cool with grabbing something and just bringing it to Hailstorm but I'm not sure what's in the area.
